The tally of fatalities resulting from the UPS cargo plane which caught fire and crashed has now risen to 13, per official statements.

Mayor's Announcement

“On my way to the Union’s memorial service, I received word of a additional fatality that died as a result of the UPS flight 2976 accident,” wrote the municipal leader in a social media post. “My thoughts is with the relatives, companions and co-workers of all who were lost in this recent calamity. We will get through this together.”

Victims Confirmed

“Our hearts go out to every staff member who has been affected and all in our local area – supporting you and guaranteeing you receive the attention and assistance you need is our main concern,” the firm’s message stated.

Probe Findings

Government investigators disclosed that the freight aircraft’s wing ignited and an engine detached just after departure from the airfield, resulting in the plane to fall and burst into a fireball.

The NTSB stated it is probing the aircraft’s maintenance history, that was in Texas for fixes weeks before the accident.

Aviation information revealed the plane was on the ground in that location from 3 September to 18 October.

“We are knowledgeable that this jet was there in the facility,” remarked an official on Thursday, without a precise date range. “We will look at every piece of maintenance that was completed, even the repair time, right up to the date of the trip.”

Recovery of Critical Components

The cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder were recovered, and the motor was found on the runway.

The units – known as data containers – were built to survive crash impacts and severe temperatures from blazes, and they looked to be in one piece when located among the remains. Authorities plan on reviewing information from the recorders.

Jet’s final flight details indicated an elevation of 475 ft and a rate of that speed before the impact.

Maintenance Record

Based on FAA files from last month, a fracture on a component within the center wing fuel tank needed repairs.

Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which said it offers aircraft servicing for the company’s aircraft and runs a service location in that city, refused to speak, but stated it would work closely when officials approached it.

Operations Restart

Meanwhile, UPS Worldport activities continued that evening with its Next Day Air or evening operation, spokesperson the company official confirmed. The three landing strips at the aviation hub were likewise reopened.

The distribution hub in this location is the organization’s most significant. The hub employs more than twenty thousand workers in the region, manages three hundred aircraft per day and organizes more than 400,000 parcels an hour.

Local Response

A gathering was conducted on the late afternoon of that date by the area labor union, which represents workers at the Louisville airport, the company’s largest shipping facility.

Worker representatives, which stands for UPS workers, commenced the gathering with a quiet tribute at the evening hour, the estimated time of the incident two days earlier.

“This event was so abrupt, so unexpected,” the official told the assembly of 200. “No one had a chance to part to any one of those who we have mourned.”
