The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the WSL team.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
