Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Loss

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was natural for doubts to be raised about his position following a further convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their ninth loss in 12 games, representing the club's poorest run after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at Anfield.

“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received a lot of backing from management,” Slot remarked.

“It would be great to turn it around and secure a win obviously but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”

He added, “I am OK with my role. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we improved our results.”

Talks with Club Management

When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the team officials, Slot said:

“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”

He added, “During our regular discussions I feel the belief. However I've not talked to them since this game so far so it remains to be seen.”

Familiar Failings and Squad Response

The manager expressed regret over familiar shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his view of the club’s predicament.

“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones remarked.

“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”

He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”

“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a phase like this with performances this poor.”

Jones finished, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until it is gone, we’re always going to battle.”

“We’re going to try to get this team return to the top, show everyone again what this club is about and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”

“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
