Typically, clip shows face criticism among audiences as a needless diversion, or at best tolerated as a requirement for shows during the period of regular broadcasts. However, this wasn't the situation, but Avatar: The Last Airbender showed it through "The Ember Island Players," a cherished installment in its last season that is now granted a dedicated Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair release.

Information regarding the special release

The complete Secret Lair superdrop for the soon-to-release Avatar: The Last Airbender edition was unveiled earlier this month. Containing five Secret Lairs, and even though a set named "My Cabbages!" is certainly funny homage to the show's beloved recurring figure, the other collections seem somewhat uninspired, with one notable exception: "The Ember Island Players."

Based on installment 17 from season 3 of the animated show, this collector's drop includes these particular cards:

Why this segment remains memorable

Audiences of Avatar fondly remember this particular episode, which functioned as a recap of the hero Aang and his companions' journey prior to the final episode. Different from other recap episodes, or retrospective segments, "The Ember Island Players" wasn't motivated due to production constraints or production issues. The creators specifically aimed to offer viewers a chance to revisit the overall plot, but they decided to execute it with flair.

Throughout the segment, the crew view a play depicting their exploits in a theater set on Ember Island, named The Boy in the Iceberg. The play itself is wildly exaggerated, over-the-top, and completely amusing. It succeeds as it plays on the characters' views of themselves, contrasting them with how the world (and especially the antagonist nation) sees them. It possesses the right amount of self-awareness, and it results in possibly the finest interpretation of Avatar we have had.

Worth and pricing

Regarding worth, this offers a fantastic Secret Lair because of one major element: Braid of Fire. This card trades for $20 and $40 on online marketplaces at the time of writing, while for $29.99 you can obtain the entire Secret Lair, or alternatively $39.99 for the shiny edition.
