Nigel Farage Claims Teachers of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Racial Topics
The political figure stated that teachers would go on strike shortly after a success at the polls for his party, accusing them of “harming young minds” by instructing children that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
At a gathering for a private US Christian college, the politician expressed his perspective on the UK education system, stating that the “Marxist left” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I expect a walkout by educators soon after winning the next general election,” he remarked during a Q&A session.
“They are corrupting young minds. They are telling them to feel guilt about their nation. They are telling little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is a victim and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is an oppressor. They are dividing us, instead of fostering unity. They are feeding this harmful mindset.”
Reacting to these assertions, the head of a major education union dismissed the notion that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “nonsense”. Kebede noted that industrial action must relate to educators’ working conditions, and doubted whether the party would target these immediately upon entering government.
“The politician has crafted his public life on coded rhetoric and now, similar to other figures, he is lining up teachers and their organizations for a conflict,” the union leader said.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. Neither I nor our union – advocate such divisive theories as he’s suggesting … If he were to lead the government he would sell out our public services, particularly schooling … and the outcome would be catastrophic for education and children.”
Reform, which is leading the polls by about 10 points, has not set out much detail on its educational plans and seems not to have designated an education lead.
However, his comments suggested the party would overhaul the educational framework. He said: “We have got a massive job with education – truly monumental. Moreover, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it will take us years, a long-term effort to reform.”
Farage expressed that gen Z was more open to critical thinking, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.
Paying tribute to a conservative activist, Farage said: “My goal for schooling is to teach critical thinking – to instruct people that multiple perspectives exist and they should decide for themselves as opposed to current practices where one is virtuous and one is evil. This is a huge undertaking in both Britain and America.”
The party has conflicted with the UK’s largest teaching union, after Kebede called the party “far right and racist” and dismissed Farage as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.
The politician has charged the union head with being “an avowed radical” … an individual intent that young minds be corrupted through education, their thinking tainted about everything to do with this country” and maintained that the organization seeks to brainwash youth opposed to his party.
Roughly a million individuals work in schools in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The leading teachers’ organization has hundreds of thousands of members.
National strikes over teacher pay and conditions in 2023 caused widespread disruption in educational institutions and millions of days of lost learning for students.
At the US event, the Reform leader also vowed to promote the digital courses of the institution in the UK. He said organizations like it were “key to resistance”, noting: “I am serious. I’ll assist garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions of young people to your online courses. I pledge this tonight and I’ll do that.”
The institution, a religious educational establishment, provides complimentary classes. According to its online description: “Comprehensive learning is necessary for personal happiness and to maintain the benefits of freedom. It offers these beautiful courses for free to every interested learner.”
