New Year Partygoers Advised to Bundle Up with Snowfall Forecast Across the UK
Weather experts have indicated an icy beginning to the new year, with wintry precipitation likely throughout a lot of the UK. Celebrants are advised to bundle up as bitterly cold temperatures are expected for New Year's Eve.
Celebratory Celebrations Go Ahead In Spite of Warnings
Edinburgh's renowned Hogmanay celebrations are expected to take place, a contrast to last year's cancellation. This is in spite of advisories for snow across northern Scotland.
"A cold New Year's Eve evening for those who are celebrating, so additional clothing will be essential," said the weather service.
Celebrations Under Mostly Clear but Frosty Skies
Elsewhere in the UK, the weather is expected to be ideal for fireworks shows, with no rain and clear skies. Readings are expected to be low, meaning warm wraps a necessity, said forecasters.
To the north, skies will be cloudier, but this is unlikely to affect visibility for seeing fireworks. "We are not looking at low cloud, mist or murk, so you should be able to see fireworks, just not stars," commented one forecaster.
Extensive Advisories for Friday
Moving into Friday, weather warnings are in place across Northern Ireland and stretching from Wales, across parts of the north-west, the West Midlands and reaching London and most of the south-east of England.

- Hold-ups and call-offs are likely on the transport network.
The Mercury Forecast to Fall Further
Going into the new year, it will be "frosty everywhere where you are," commented forecaster Simon Partridge. Temperatures are expected to fall even more as wintry showers and strong winds are expected to affect the north of the country.
About 10cm of snow is expected to have accumulated in some areas by Friday morning, with up to 30cm on the highest roads and hills.
Medical Advisories Issued
Meanwhile, amber-level health advisories are in force for the north-east and north-west of England. These are expected to continue until noon on 5 January, with the mercury forecast to fall to between 3C and 5C.
Officials said this meant the weather could to cause significant impacts across health and social care services. This encompasses a potential rise in the number of deaths among vulnerable individuals or those aged 65 or over.
