American flight controllers are more and more seeking second jobs and calling in sick, as they continue to work without pay amid the government shutdown, the transport chief has stated.

"The controllers are wearing thin," Sean Duffy informed a news outlet on Sunday, as certain aircraft were halted on the California shoreline due to personnel deficits.

Following the government shut down on October 1st, flight controllers, who are deemed essential workers, were instructed to keep doing their duties without pay.

But some have been absent, leading airports to halt or reduce their flight operations, which has exacerbated setbacks caused by climate and additional factors.

"I observe the pressure," he remarked in an discussion on a weekend program, adding that he had met with several controllers to listen to their worries firsthand.
