A Special Release Pikachu Promo Aims to Curb the Influence Against Resellers
Marking the arrival of the fascinating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, a unique collaboration is underway. Pokémon's creators alongside the Natural History Museum will launch a temporary store stocked with exclusive merchandise. Fans can look forward to products like plush toys, art prints, and writing supplies that are inspired by the institution's theme. The big draw, though, will be a limited-edition Pikachu card, given as a free bonus for the pop-up. The store is scheduled from the physical location and its web counterpart between late January and mid-April.
Pokécology That Inspires the Partnership
Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology represents a much-awaited tome filled with beautiful artwork that show creatures in their wild environments. The concept like the kind of research a Pokémon Professor could produce once trainers submit their data, or a naturalist's journal might have created if the Galapagos were populated by flying-types rather than birds. A key appeal stems from the book's scholarly treatment, presenting Pokémon as a legitimate scientific inquiry. Author Yoshinari Yonehara and artist Chihiro Kinoshita each possess PhDs in animal behavior and ecology.
Why This Special Card Stand Out
It is common for The Pokémon Company to release cards celebrating major tournaments and brand collaborations. Many such collector items typically highlight the iconic electric rodent that acts as the franchise mascot. What distinguishes this new museum card however, is the unusually large dimensions. While precise specs have not been immediately shared, its distribution will certainly be highly restricted, with customers limited to just one card per purchase.
Curbing Speculator Activity
According to an official statement, some of the merchandise may also be available beyond the institution itself. However, a wider release will only be specific stores in the United Kingdom. Critically, fans will not be able to acquire this promo through the official web shop. Although reseller interest is inevitable, the setup suggests they're going to have trouble stockpiling large numbers this time around. For those unable to attend, consider the upcoming Pokémon Fossil exhibit headed to the Windy City in the coming months.
"Every penny of sales from the Museum shop and its web shop, including these items, support the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. That encompasses the efforts of hundreds of researchers dedicated to scientific inquiry and finding answers to the planetary emergency," the statement says.
